Akerman is a sponsor of the 2018 Mortgage Bankers Association’s (MBA) Legal Issues & Regulatory Compliance Conference in Los Angeles, California. Bill Heller, chair of Akerman's Consumer Financial Services Practice Group, will again be speaking and will be conducting a litigation forum session discussing national litigation developments in the areas of statutes of limitation, acceleration and property preservation issues. Tobias Moon will be a panel speaker and his topic, “Applied Compliance Track: Mortgage Servicing Rules Interactive Session,” will address issues impacted by the updated mortgage servicing rules from the CFPB including the ins and outs of the different requirements, and compliance. Thomas Kearney will also be a speaker on the “Controlling the Narrative: Using Internal Data for Better Market Penetration,” panel. His session will discuss ways compliance managers can work with production managers to monitor data prior to reporting to identify areas of potential growth and improvement. Thomas’ second panel, “Deep Dive Roundtable: HMDA Compliance Q&A,” will discuss Home Mortgage Disclosure Act rulemakings. Lastly, Kathleen Ryan will be a speaker on the “Regtech Fintech Track: Social Media and Digital Advertising Compliance,” panel.  Her session will discuss how Social media and digital advertising are required elements of doing business today, along with new legal issues that continue to arise as company’s usage and practices evolve, including guidance, enforcement and trends.
