Sergio Acosta, Co-Chair of Akerman’s White Collar Crime and Government Investigations Practice, will speak on the panel titled “The Pursuit of Justice: Finding the Line Between Aggressive Advocacy and System Disruption” at the 2026 Hot Topics, Practice Tips & Current Developments in Federal Criminal Law seminar hosted by the Federal Bar Association, Chicago Chapter.
The panel will examine how prosecutors, defense attorneys, and judges may — intentionally or inadvertently — undermine the fairness they are sworn to uphold. Sergio will lead Part 2: Prosecution and the Executive Branch, offering a critical analysis of prosecutorial overreach, including selective prosecution, the reliability of cooperating witnesses, discovery violations, and the distinction between prosecutorial mistakes and misconduct.
