Akerman Senterfitt today announced the 2013 edition of Chambers Global Guide has recognized the firm's Latin America & the Caribbean Practice as among the best in Latin America for International Arbitration.

It also has recommended Akerman lawyers as "Leaders in their Field," including Luis Perez for International Arbitration, across Latin America, and Felipe Berer for International Trade in the United States and Brazil.

Recently, Akerman's Latin America & the Caribbean Practice was recognized for International Arbitration across Latin America in the 2013 edition of Chambers Latin America. The firm's Latin America team was recognized in 2012 by U.S. News – Best Lawyers as a National Tier One practice for International Arbitration – Commercial.

Perez serves as co-chair of Akerman's Latin America & the Caribbean Practice and is a shareholder based in the firm's Miami office. His primary practice area is complex commercial litigation and arbitration both at the national and international level. Perez has extensive experience coordinating and directing the defense of cases filed in multiple jurisdictions in Latin America including individual civil actions, criminal actions, administrative claims, governmental investigations and class actions. Due to his extensive work in Latin America, he has strong relationships with lawyers and law firms in the region and is frequently called upon to lend advice and counsel to clients involved in complex trials and arbitrations. Perez is fluent in Spanish, and  conversational in Portuguese and French, and is licensed to practice law in Florida, Texas, Louisiana and in Washington, D.C.

Berer is of counsel in the firm's Miami office and has significant experience assisting U.S.- and Brazil-based clients in international transactions. His practice is focused on legal, trade and regulatory matters pertaining to inbound Brazilian investment in the United States, outbound U.S. investment into Brazil, international trade law and policy in the United States and Brazil, international contracts, and government affairs in Brazil. Berer is fluent in Portuguese and Spanish and is licensed to practice law in Virginia and Brazil. He also serves as a Special Legal Consultant in the District of Columbia.
