Akerman Labor and Employment Partner Mishell Parreno Taylor and Government Affairs and Public Policy Associate Jamel Greer were named among the Los Angeles Business Journal 2024 “Leaders of Influence - Minority Attorneys” special section, which recognizes lawyers of diverse backgrounds who have been particularly impactful in the legal community while serving as trusted advisors in the Los Angeles region.

Parreno Taylor focuses her practice on employment litigation in federal and state courts and administrative agencies across the country. She partners with stakeholders in organizations of all sizes, ranging from local to global corporations, on a broad spectrum of employment law issues, including defending clients against individual and class-wide claims of discrimination, harassment, wrongful termination, and retaliation. Parreno Taylor also conducts and oversees sensitive employee investigations involving post #metoo claims of harassment, inappropriate conduct, and whistleblower claims. Additionally, she handles both individual and class action/California Private Attorney General Act (PAGA) wage and hour litigation in matters involving claims of missed meal and rest periods, unlawful deductions, misclassification, expense reimbursement, and off-the-clock work. 

Greer focuses his practice on representing clients in the higher education and collegiate athletics sector. His experience includes representing higher education institutions in matters involving regulatory and compliance issues at the local, state, and federal level and conducting training for board members on the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), Open Meetings Act, and general board governance. Greer routinely counsels higher education institutions on issues of student and employee privacy, including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). He also handles various investigations including but not limited to employment,  collegiate athletics, and Title IX. In addition, Greer represents higher education institutions in litigation matters, mergers and acquisitions, and in procuring state licenses.
