Akerman is proud to represent 8th Regiment Partners in partnership with the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) on the restoration and adaptive reuse of the historic Kingsbridge Armory in the Northwest Bronx. The project involves revitalizing North America’s largest armory, featuring a 180,000-square-foot column-free drill hall, alongside the construction of approximately 500 affordable housing units on an adjacent parcel.
The redevelopment included key land use actions such as rezoning, a special permit for a live events venue with capacity for 17,000 people, and securing necessary approvals from the Landmarks Preservation and Public Design Commissions. Akerman also managed the disposition process and negotiated the development agreement and ground lease with the City of New York.
Supported by significant public investment, this project will create a vibrant community hub offering cultural, recreational, and workforce development spaces while delivering critical affordable housing and economic opportunities for Bronx residents.
