Top 100 U.S. law firm Akerman LLP is pleased to announce that it has collaborated with other law firms to establish the Racial Justice Advocacy Fund at the Florida State University College of Law in Tallahassee. Real Estate partner Bruce Wiener worked with FSU Law in forming the fund, with input from lawyers at Akerman and other local firms. The fund helps financially support students who use their legal skills to fight for racial justice. Students participate in externships, internships, and programs focused on areas where racial injustice has posed the greatest barriers to progress. Students also engage in racial equality-focused work with such organizations as the NAACP, Color of Change, The Innocence Project, the National Urban League, and the Consortium for Racial Justice and Social Reform to effect change through courts, trial work, and advocacy, according to the university.

“One of the best things we can do now is invest in real change agents, our future attorneys,” said Wiener. “The success of this fund will require a collective effort of law firms and attorneys, with so many already stepping up to raise awareness and help further the college’s commitment to making positive change.”
