Press Release

Akerman today announced the continued expansion of its nationally recognized Healthcare Practice Group with the addition of Christopher Pinto, a former U.S. Department of Justice trial lawyer. Chris joins the firm’s Washington, D.C. office as a partner, further strengthening Akerman’s bench of litigators and regulatory advisors serving the healthcare industry.

An accomplished healthcare litigator and trusted advisor, Chris brings deep experience representing healthcare providers, health systems, insurers, and life sciences companies in high-stakes disputes, government investigations, and complex regulatory matters. He joins Akerman from the DOJ’s Civil Division, where he represented the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in complex statutory and medical injury claims. Prior to this, Chris practiced at Am Law 100 law firm, where he represented healthcare entities and insurers in a wide range of litigation, arbitration, and regulatory matters.

“Chris' government experience and sophisticated understanding of federal healthcare programs make him an exceptional addition to our national team,” said Robert Slavkin, chair of Akerman’s Healthcare Practice Group. “His ability to navigate intricate regulatory frameworks and litigate high-impact healthcare matters enhances our capabilities across the sector.”

Chris’ practice spans federal court litigation, arbitration, and matters involving federal and state agencies. He has significant experience representing insurers in litigation against the U.S. government and handling disputes involving payors, providers, pharmacy benefit managers, and pharmacies. He regularly advises hospitals, behavioral health organizations, and other healthcare entities on Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement matters, mental health parity compliance, and audits and investigations by federal and state oversight bodies.

At the DOJ, Chris managed a significant litigation docket, collaborated with government stakeholders on case strategy, and handled trials and appeals in federal courts nationwide. His public service provides him with rare insight into agency operations and enforcement priorities — experience that translates into practical, evidence-driven advocacy for clients.

In addition to his healthcare work, Chris has represented organizations in employment investigations, compliance reviews, and policy development initiatives. He also maintains a robust pro bono practice focused on immigration and public health.
