Akerman today announced that Tammy Mercer, a prominent Delaware litigator, has joined the firm as a partner in its Litigation Practice Group in Wilmington, Delaware.
“Tammy is a standout Delaware litigator whose deep understanding of corporate governance and transactional disputes will further enhance our litigation capabilities in one of the nation’s most important jurisdictions for business law,” said Lawrence Rochefort, chair of Akerman’s Litigation Practice Group. “Her experience before the Delaware Court of Chancery and her ability to navigate complex corporate issues make her an invaluable addition to our team.”
Tammy joins Akerman from a large Delaware firm where she served as chair of the Corporate Litigation and Counseling Section. She brings more than 19 years of experience advising boards of directors and private equity clients on complex corporate governance matters. She concentrates her practice in the Delaware Court of Chancery and Delaware Superior Court, handling high-stakes disputes involving mergers and acquisitions, going-private transactions, proxy contests, valuation and appraisal issues, and directors and officers liability. Tammy also has extensive experience with indemnification and advancement proceedings and stockholder demands for books and records.
In addition to her corporate work, Tammy regularly counsels and litigates on behalf of clients involving alternative entities—such as master limited partnerships, limited liability companies, and partnerships— particularly in cases relating to governance disputes. She also represents clients in matters concerning non-competition agreements and trade secret claims.
Tammy has been recognized by Chambers for her work in the Delaware Court of Chancery. She serves on multiple committees within the American Bar Association and Delaware State Bar Association and is a member of many corporate governance organizations.
“Tammy’s arrival marks an important milestone in the continued growth of Akerman’s Wilmington office,” said Andrew Dupre, managing partner of the Delaware office. “Her stellar reputation and leadership within the Delaware bar reinforce our commitment to offering clients exceptional corporate litigation and counseling capabilities in this vital market.”
Akerman has long served a wide array of clients in Delaware-based disputes and has also advised clients in connection with capital markets, real estate, bankruptcy, and corporate needs, among others. The firm established its permanent presence in Wilmington in July 2024, with capabilities in bankruptcy, corporate, intellectual property, and litigation.
