Donald Pocock, a partner in Akerman's Litigation Practice Group, was recently elected as the Chair of the Litigation Section of the North Carolina Bar Association (NCBA). He is based in the firm's Winston Salem office and joined Akerman in April 2023.

The Litigation Section is the second largest group of attorneys in the NCBA with approximately 2000 members from across the state. previously chaired the Civil Practice and Awards Committees.  Pocock has been a member of the NCBA's Litigation Section since beginning his legal career in 2000. He has previously been a member of the section's Civil Practice Committee and the Leadership Council, among other roles.

"For the past year I served as secretary. As chair I will run the quarterly meetings of the Leadership Council, set the agenda, and serve as the section’s voice with the rest of the NCBA, Pocock said. He added that the section produces a CLE each year and also runs a blog.  "We are sometimes asked to opine on proposed legislation that impacts the court system such as amendments to the Rules of Civil Procedure. I am grateful for the opportunity to lead this diverse group and to serve the Bar Association for the coming year."

At Akerman, Pocock focuses his practice on business litigation, construction law, creditor’s rights and insolvency litigation, and financial services litigation. Pocock represents clients in all phases of litigation including pleadings, discovery, document production, depositions, mediations, motions, briefs, and trial. He has appellate experience, including conducting oral arguments before North Carolina Court of Appeals, Supreme Court of North Carolina, and Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals. He has also appeared in arbitrations before American Arbitration Association, National Arbitration Forum, JAMS, and The Arbitration Forum. 

Pocock is a graduate of Wake Forest University and the Wake Forest School of Law.
