Top 100 U.S. law firm Akerman LLP is pleased to announce that partner and Director of Pro Bono Initiatives Gina DelChiaro has been listed among Crain’s New York Business Notable Women in Law. The attorneys were chosen for their skills and accomplishments in the courtroom, and for their leadership outside it. In addition to their long hours representing everyone from Fortune 500 companies to immigrants seeking asylum, the honorees this year were cited for shoring up morale among their colleagues during the pandemic and innovating ways to keep business going in the face of turmoil.

Crain’s consulted with trusted sources among organizations and individuals in the legal industry and the general New York business world to identify nominees. Each lawyer was selected for her outstanding professional achievements and her pro bono work or involvement with industry and community organizations.

DelChiaro directs Akerman’s Pro Bono Initiative to cultivate pro bono opportunities, leveraging the skills and interests of the firm's lawyers to meet the legal needs of people least able to afford and most in need of legal services. She has over 15 years of experience working on pro bono projects and initiatives with law firms and in-house counsel. =. Prior to joining Akerman, Gina was the Corporate Engagement Counsel at Lawyers Alliance for New York, where she focused on transactional pro bono placement with corporate legal departments. In addition, DelChiaro spent six years at Human Rights First, where she launched and managed a pro bono program with law firms and corporations that provided legal representation to asylum seekers and other immigrants. Prior to that, Gina was an associate at an AmLaw 10 firm, focusing her practice on regulatory enforcement, securities and commercial litigation, capital markets transactions, and pro bono work including capital litigation and immigration matters.

As Director of Pro Bono Initiatives, DelChiaro is instrumental in providing direction and support for Akerman's pro bono efforts. Most recently, Akerman helped the ACLU of Florida, Southern Legal Counsel, and Florida Rural Legal Services achieve a First Amendment rights victory for the homeless. Additionally, Akerman represented the Law Enforcement Action Partnership (LEAP) in its effort to increase transparency in law enforcement through the repeal of Section 50-a of the New York Civil Rights Law, which for decades had shielded law enforcement disciplinary records from public disclosure.
