Top 100 U.S. law firm Akerman LLP is pleased to announce that litigation special counsel Christy Hawkins has been appointed as a KnowledgeNet Chapter Co-Chair for IAPP (International Association of Privacy Professionals) Dallas for a two-year term in 2022-2023.

As co-chair, Hawkins will be responsible for increasing KnowledgeNet Chapter engagement among members, volunteers, and guests by organizing networking activities, educational meetings, and advocacy opportunities that raise awareness on diversity in privacy, privacy bar, privacy engineering, women leading privacy, and other related concerns.

Hawkins focuses her practice on privacy, cybersecurity, and incident response. She advises clients on state, federal, and international data security and privacy issues, including compliance and risk management. She supports such organizations as financial institutions, healthcare, hospitality, human resources, e-commerce, insurance, pharmaceutical, software/SaaS, and security. Hawkins is recognized as a Fellow of Information Privacy (FIP) by the IAPP and holds Certified Information Privacy Professional/United States (CIPP/US), Certified Information Privacy Professional/Europe (CIPP/E), and Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM) credentials. She has also earned the IAPP’s ABA-accredited Privacy Law Specialist (PLS) designation.
