The Central Florida Bankruptcy Law Association honored bankruptcy and reorganization partner Jules Cohen with a 60-year celebration during its first in-person luncheon since the start of the pandemic, held in Akerman’s Orlando office. The event was attended by family, friends, and colleagues, including former U.S. Bankruptcy Court  Judge for the Middle District of Florida Arthur Briskman, U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judges for the Middle District of Florida Jacob Brown, Lori Vaughan, and Michael Williamson, as well as U.S. Bankruptcy Judge in the Southern District of Florida, West Palm Beach Division Erik Kimball.

Judge Williamson, who was the guest speaker, shared a timeline of Cohen’s career accomplishments, how he has had such a positive impact on the community, and reminded the local bar of the importance of professionalism and civility.

Described in Chambers USA as “an outstanding bankruptcy lawyer,” Cohen represents banks and other lenders as secured creditors in bankruptcy proceedings in all types of businesses. He has represented clients in notable bankruptcy proceedings, including, the billion dollar Chapter 11 case of Braniff Airlines, serving as the court appointed examiner of the Sheraton Twin Towers case, and representing a lender group with a $114 million secured claim in the Gencor Industries case.
