Akerman chairs Andrew Robins of the Lodging and Lifestyle Practice, and Kenneth Alberstadt of the Capital Markets Practice, co-authored an article for Commercial Investment Real Estate, titled "Condo-Hotels Return." The article examined new rules adopted by the Securities and Exchange Commission under the Jumpstart our Business Startups — or JOBS — Act of 2012, which loosened the legal structure and marketing process of condo-hotels. Robins and Alberstadt wrote that recent regulations allow for the sale of condo-hotels as securities, which opens up new opportunities for developers and investors. The authors analyzed the benefits and impact of this new sales option.

Robins and Alberstadt wrote, "Sales force licensing and securities law considerations relating to the resale of condominium hotel units offered as securities introduce new complexities, but these seem to be far outweighed by the economic and legal advantages available to developers under the JOBS Act."
