Press Release

U.S. law firm Akerman today announced that its Chief Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion Officer Dr. Cassandra Caldwell has been featured on the cover of Legacy magazine as one of Miami's Most Prominent and Influential Black Women in Business and Industry in 2023. The 19th annual publication, which debuted inside the Miami Herald and Sun Sentinel, is a formal tribute to those whose achievements have left an indelible imprint on the South Florida region through their commitment to leadership and service.

Dr. Caldwell has more than  25 years of experience guiding corporate organizations and other major institutions to achieving tangible, sustainable results. She works closely with Akerman's leadership to implement programming, initiatives, outreach, and external partnerships designed to propel recruitment, engagement, development, and retention, strengthening Akerman’s foundational commitment to DEI.

Dr. Caldwell was featured on the cover of the magazine for her outstanding story as an acclaimed diversity and inclusion expert, author, scholar, entrepreneur, and breast cancer survivor. When asked about her role as Akerman's Chief DEI Officer, Dr. Caldwell said, "Some people say they have to go to work every day. I'm blessed enough to say I get to go to work every day because it is such a great environment. It is just a joy to come to work, every day, because I am able to have an impact on the organization and on their culture."

Before joining Akerman, Dr. Caldwell served in various leadership roles for a number of companies, educational institutions, and government agencies. She has also held several academic appointments, instructing at the university level on an array of topics including leadership, diversity and inclusion, human resources, organizational theory and behavior, and research methods.

Dedicated to community service, Dr. Caldwell devotes her skills and time to serving in leadership positions in numerous nonprofit organizations, including establishing the Loaves and Fishes Fund that focuses on eliminating food insecurity for people and pets in Florida and North Carolina, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Alumni Committee on Racial and Ethnic Diversity.
