VoyageMIA featured Maria Casablanca, chair of Akerman’s Immigration Planning and Compliance Practice, in its Miami’s Most Inspiring Stories column, which features the “creative and talented people who call South Florida home.”

Casablanca shared what brought her to a career resolving immigration issues, “While in law school, I volunteered for an internship with Catholic Social Services in Atlanta Georgia… At CSS, I was exposed to indigent immigrants who were in dire need of representation with documentation and before the immigration court. I found that servicing these people was extremely rewarding. And due to the times that we were in, I was very successful in obtaining relief for them. I then returned to Miami and worked for a law firm that represented individuals and companies with their employment and family based visas and green cards.”
