The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services intends to roll out new requirements for hospitals under the Patient Safety Structural Measure (PSS Measure). Akerman's Healthcare Practice Chair Robert Slavkin and Associate Danielle Gordet recently analyzed for Healthcare Risk Management what the proposed rule includes and what it means for providers.
The new system will score hospitals on a scale of one to five based on their self-reported compliance in five categories or “domains” focused on patient safety.
“So long as hospitals comply with submitting whether they are in compliance with each measure they will be in ‘compliance’ with the reporting requirement,” Gordet told the publication. “However, failure to affirmatively attest to each measure could have reputational harm and potential financial consequences.”
