Press Release

Akerman today announced Robert Slavkin, chair of its Healthcare Practice Group, has been appointed Global Co-Chair of the Healthcare and Life Sciences Practice Group by Lex Mundi, the world’s leading network of independent law firms, with 150 member firms and more than 22,000 lawyers worldwide.

Members of the Healthcare and Life Sciences Practice Group work together to stay abreast of the rapidly changing regulations that affect this industry and collaborate closely with their intellectual property and litigation colleagues in order to better assist clients when issues arise. As co-chair for a two-year term, Slavkin will provide strategic direction and oversee the execution of major committee initiatives while furthering its mission to provide integrated and high quality legal services worldwide.

Slavkin has been involved with Lex Mundi for more than ten years, first as an active author and presenter, and most recently as regional vice-chair of North America for the Healthcare and Life Sciences Practice Group.

As chair of Akerman's Healthcare Practice Group, Slavkin leads a multidisciplinary team recognized nationally for representing sector participants in regulatory compliance, insurance, and transactional issues. A former healthcare corporate counsel, compliance, and privacy officer for a publicly traded healthcare company, Slavkin represents a variety of clients within the healthcare sector, providing guidance on complex issues and compliance with all appropriate federal and state statutes and regulations. These include federal anti-kickback, Stark laws, Medicare, Medicaid, HIPAA, and FDA regulations, as well as providing guidance on daily operational and compliance issues facing healthcare entities.

Slavkin has significant experience with the Affordable Care Act and the ever-evolving role accountable care plays in U.S. health reform. Additionally, Slavkin counsels clients on Medicare Managed Care and the Part D programs. He possesses a keen understanding of the momentous legislative changes of this sector as well as potential resulting implications.

Member law firms of Lex Mundi are located throughout North America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia and the Pacific, and Latin America and the Caribbean. Akerman was elected as Lex Mundi’s USA-Florida member in 2006 after undergoing the network’s rigorous assessment procedure that, among other things, evaluated the firm’s quality, responsiveness, management structure, reputation, use of technology, training programs, and ethical standards.
