Lansing Palmer is featured in an article by New York Super Lawyers magazine titled, “Probate Games,” outlining his involvement in several high-profile client disputes throughout his career, including his representation of Alexandra Clancy, widow of renowned author Tom Clancy. In one of the top-reported estate cases of 2016, Palmer won a legal victory for Ms. Clancy in a drawn-out battle over who would shoulder a nearly $6 million tax bill on the late author's $86 million estate. Palmer led a team securing a much-publicized decision by the Maryland Court of Appeals, which affirmed Tom Clancy's overarching intent, set forth in his will and second codicil, to benefit his widow and their daughter by preserving the marital deduction in a trust.

As Palmer explains in the article, the real dispute was between Mr. Clancy’s widow and the estate's personal representative and his law firm, who by their actions ignored the late author’s wishes by taking a position inconsistent with his will that they themselves drafted - actions that could have cost Mr. Clancy's estate unnecessary estate taxes, and would have been an unfair and absurd result.
