Angelica Fortney works with public and private companies on the design and implementation of tax-qualified and 403(b) retirement plans, health and welfare plans, cafeteria plans, and non-qualified deferred compensation plans. Her experience includes preparing plan documents, amendments, and summary plan descriptions, and advising on the correction of compliance issues under the EPCRS, VFCP and DFVCP. She also provides diligence and support on employee benefits and compensation issues arising in M&A and other corporate transactions. During law school, Angelica received the Judge Houston M. Goddard Judicial Conference Foundation Scholarship of East Tennessee Award, Gary R. Wade Scholarship, Law College Scholarship, and Law Diversity Scholarship. She was also a member of the Phillip C. Jessup International Moot Court, Executive Editor and founding member of The Tennessee Journal of Race, Gender, & Social Justice, and Vice-President of the Black Law Students Association. As a student attorney at the University of Tennessee Wrongful Convictions and Innocence Clinic she advocated for incarcerated clients asserting wrongful conviction or innocence claims, including successfully securing parole release for one client.
