Speaking Engagements

Chair of Akerman’s Immigration Planning and Compliance Practice, Maria Casablanca will speak on a panel titled, “Family Residency and Citizenship Planning: Are the Golden Visas A Dying Strategy?" at the 14th Annual Business Law Forum, presented by the International Association of Lawyers (UIA) with the support of the Budapest Bar Association. Legal practitioners from all around the world will share their experience about family businesses and will discuss the best practices in different jurisdictions.

During the 21st century, golden visa programs have been a popular means by which high net worth individuals (HNWIs) can hedge instability in their home countries. However, with the recent closures of golden visa programs in Ireland and Portugal, HNWIs have fewer residency and citizenship options for this hedging. This panel will analyze the current state of play with residency by investment and citizenship by investment programs.
