Top 100 U.S. law firm Akerman LLP is pleased to announce that Labor and Employment partner Mishell Parreno Taylor has been sworn in as the Vice Chair/Chair-Elect of the Hispanic National Bar Association’s (HNBA) Latina Commission.

The HNBA is an incorporated, not-for-profit, national membership association that represents the interests of more than 67,000 Hispanic attorneys, judges, law professors, legal assistants, law students, and legal professionals in the United States and its territories. Since 1972, the HNBA has acted as a force for positive change within the legal profession by creating opportunities for Hispanic lawyers and by helping generations of lawyers to succeed. The HNBA has also effectively advocated on issues of importance to the national Hispanic community.

The Latina Commission serves the community and the legal profession by addressing barriers to the professional development and advancement of Latina lawyers. Throughout her legal career, Parreno Taylor has shown a strong commitment to building a diverse legal pipeline.   

Parreno Taylor, based in both Houston and Los Angeles, focuses her national practice on employment litigation in federal and state courts and administrative agencies across the country. She partners with stakeholders in organizations of all sizes, ranging from local to global corporations on a such employment law issues as defending clients against claims of discrimination, harassment, wrongful termination, and retaliation. Additionally, she handles both individual and class action/California Private Attorney General Act (PAGA) wage and hour litigation in matters involving claims of missed meal and rest periods, unlawful deductions, misclassification, expense reimbursement, and off-the-clock work. Parreno Taylor is also focused on helping organizations build workplaces of the future through collaborating with global clients to develop innovative solutions for achieving their diversity, equity, and inclusion objectives.
