The American Lawyer featured Cannabis Practice Chair Jonathan Robbins in an article looking at the growth of cannabis law among Big Law firms. Akerman was the first Big Law firm to form a national cannabis team in 2014 and continues to be involved in some of the most notable transactions and precedent-setting litigation in the sector, including the recent victory for Florigrown LLC in a Florida appellate court, which affirmed a lower court ruling that the state’s regulatory structure in place for medical marijuana treatment centers is unconstitutional. Robbins, who also serves as a founding member of the National Cannabis Bar Association, elaborates on the evolution of the practice over the years.

The American Lawyer wrote, “Robbins is a regulatory attorney by trade. He started working with the cannabis industry because clients wanted to understand their exposure with regard to federal and state regulations.”

“… the practice he heads reaches all 50 states at this point. That’s 50 different sets of rules to understand at the state level alone – it gets more complicated at the municipal level. And they are moving targets.”
