As a result of the combined leadership and marketing efforts of the Healthcare Practice Group and the Tallahassee Office, Akerman recently sponsored the inaugural Florida State University Business of Healthcare Summit held on January 26, 2024, in Tallahassee. The Summit featured speakers and executive panelists representing hospitals, health systems, policy boards, professional organizations, finance experts and insurers, and the academic leaders who must fine tune the next generation of industry leaders. The Summit leveraged FSU's extensive network of alumni and industry partners for this intensive one-day event including forums, discussions, and lectures involving business factors and pressures from capital access to professional shortages affecting the healthcare sector. With a full auditorium of 500 attendees, FSU's President McCullough and other business leaders participated. Akerman's sponsorship and attendance was prominent and included John Loar, Bruce Wiener, and Philip Sprinkle, as well as Akerman clients and two sponsored law students involved in the FSU health law program. Akerman representatives will be on the Advisory Group for subsequent Summits.
